Department of Human Anatomy was founded in 1957 and first settled in the physiological, and from September 1958 - in the morphological building of Ternopil State Medical Institute. Since April 2006, the Department of Human Anatomy was headed by a young MD E. Herasimyuk.

Since 2006 at the Department of Human Anatomy implemented practically oriented teaching system (Z- model), which aims to ensure that the students already in the first year to provide information that will be needed in the clinic as a base. In presenting the study of human anatomy entered a normal placement agencies and their relations in electronic media and film, video, demonstration and teaching of modern virtual plaster casts and the latest programs. So, the department created the base CT scan, an MRI and X-ray body on electronic and film media, which are used for practical training. Today in each training room at the Department of Human Anatomy is an X-ray viewer and video system with Bank theme tomograms, video, in which students study and X-ray tomography, anatomic and topographic features of the whole body, in fact, students from the first course of doing clinical work. Knowledge of anatomy and organ function is essential for the formation of clinical thinking and improvement of preclinical training of students that will be the basis for their future careers.

The department also created all the conditions for the education of foreign students. Since the first studies of human anatomy teaching the main task of the teaching staff of the department is targeted educational work on the formation of motivation and adaptation of foreign students to training conditions in the department, to work in the anatomical museum. Students have first to master medical terminology, the assimilation of which requires considerable effort.

The principle of practical training is to allow more time to devote to the active forms of learning - practical exercises and independent work. To optimize the teaching of anatomy teachers of the department implemented the principle of integration of interdisciplinary connections with other disciplines and branches of knowledge - histology, physiology, pathological anatomy. Synchronization of studying the structure and function contribute to a better understanding, and hence reduces the mechanical memorization of training material in the relevant disciplines. Implementation of test control of knowledge contributes to objectification assessment and is a powerful incentive for foreign students to work while highly effective classroom.

In 2009 - 2010 years in the department restored and updated teaching and science museum. All preparations were rationally museum are organized by functional and anatomical principle and in accordance with the curricula and programs on human anatomy.

During this period, the museum is fully equipped with the exposition areas of teaching and research products and manufacturing tables osteoarthrology, splanhnologiya, angioneurology, peripheral and central nervous systems. Of particular note is the section with Teratology "Malformations in Children," which described in detail the original preparations, obtained from clinical institutions in the city of Ternopil. Scientists of the department have participated in various conferences, symposia, congresses and published more than 400 articles in various scientific journals, received 4 declaration patents. From the department has been presented more than 30 papers at international conferences, symposia, congresses, and also taken numerous reports at various conferences. Employees of the department actively participated in organizing and conducting inter-university conferences on the basis of educational and scientific institute of morphology.
